However, if you have a good amount of RAM available you could quickly improve Firefox’s performance by telling it disable disk caching and only use RAM.

Here’s how you do it;

1. in your URL bar type in “about:config”. this will bring up the config page.

2. Using the filter box, lookup “browser.cache.disk.enable”. Change its value to “False” by double clicking on it.

3. Using the filter box again, lookup “browser.cache.memory.enable” . Change its value to “True” by double clicking on it.

browser.cache.disk.enable to False
browser.cache.memory.enable to True

Fire up Firefox and type “about:config” in the URL bar. That will bring up the config page.

Search for the lines below and change them accordingly to reflect the changes below.

- network.http.pipelining > Make it True
- network.http.pipelining.maxrequests > Make it 8 or 10
- network.http.proxy.pipelining > Make it True
- network.dns.disableIPv6 > Make it True

Mozilla today released Firefox 3.6.3. It’s a security fix so make sure you get updated ASAP

The release fixes a bug which could allow a attacker to remotely execute code.

This can sometimes slow down your browser’s performance.

Here are the steps to turn off IPv6 support in Firefox 3 and above.

1. Key in “about:config” into address bar, this will take you to the config page.

2. Key in “network.dns.disableIPv6″  into the filter bar and hit enter.

3. Right click on the line that read “network.dns.disableIPv6″ and select the “Toggle” option. This will switch the value from “false” to “true”

4. Restart the browser and enjoy the improvement.

Mozilla’s Firefox 3.5 RC3 is out. Download Firefox RC3

Hopefully it’s the last release candidate before Firefox 3.5 goes public. From what I’ve heard the release date is set for next week, start of July.

The video below, by Mike Beltzner gives a quick preview of what’s new and exciting in Firefox 3.5.

Also, check out the demos to see what Firefox 3.5 is capable of.

Take release candidate for a spin, you’ll realize it’s much faster compared to the previous versions of the browser. However, remember that it’s not the final product. Some extensions might not work and you might run into a few bugs.
