Firefox slow on Ubuntu 10.04

If your Firefox is sluggish on on Ubuntu 10.04 this might help.

Fire up Firefox and type “about:config” in the URL bar. That will bring up the config page.

Search for the lines below and change them accordingly to reflect the changes below.

- network.http.pipelining > Make it True - network.http.pipelining.maxrequests > Make it 8 or 10 - network.http.proxy.pipelining > Make it True - network.dns.disableIPv6 > Make it True

Mozilla’s Firefox 3.5 RC3 is out. Download Firefox RC3

Hopefully it’s the last release candidate before Firefox 3.5 goes public. From what I’ve heard the release date is set for next week, start of July.

The video below, by Mike Beltzner gives a quick preview of what’s new and exciting in Firefox 3.5.

Also, check out the demos to see what Firefox 3.5 is capable of.

Take release candidate for a spin, you’ll realize it’s much faster compared to the previous versions of the browser. However, remember that it’s not the final product. Some extensions might not work and you might run into a few bugs.

Foxmarks unknown error occurred (411)

Foxmarks is the first extension I install every time I setup Firefox.I never have to worry about loosing my bookmarks anymore and now my passwords too!

Recently it’s being acting up with a “unknown error occurred (411)”Â error during setup. The workaround fortunately is quite simple.

1. Go to Tools –> Foxmarks –> Foxmarks Settings –> Advanced
2. Change encryption to “Encrypt All”.

That’s it.

Auto upgrade Firefox 2 to Firefox 3

Users on the latest Firefox 2, version 2.0.0.17 should start receiving software updates later today prompting them to upgrade to Firefox 3.

The update is automated so no user intervention is needed expect for clicking yes on the license agreement disclaimer page.

Most extensions are already Firefox 3 capable so chances of you running an outdated extension is quite slim. The compatibility checker will notify you of such cases and offer the option to have them updated.

If you can’t wait then simply go to “Help” –> “Check for updates” to start the process manually.

Firefox 3.0.1 is out. This is the first update for Firefox 3 which was released not too long ago. ItÃ‚Â covers security, stability and bug fixes.

Fixed several security issues.
Fixed several stability issues.
Fixed an issue where the phishing and malware database did not update on first launch.
Under certain circumstances, Firefox 3.0 did not properly save the SSL certificate exceptions list.
Updated the internal Public Suffix list.
In certain cases, installing Firefox 2 in the same directory in which Firefox 3 has been installed resulted in Firefox 2 being unstable. This issue was fixed as part of Firefox 2.0.0.15.
Fixed an issue where, when printing a selected region of content from the middle of a page, some of the output was missing (bug 433373).
Fixed a Linux issues where, for users on a PPP connection (dialup or DSL) Firefox always started in “Offline” mode (bug 424626).

Download Firefox 3.0.1 now. Remember, Firefox 2 will only be available till December 2008.
