There is an updated version of the Defensio WordPress plugin available for download from Defensio website or WordPress Extend. The plugin is now officially hosted on WordPress Extend.
Changes in this release;
New plugin name.
Formerly Defensio but now it’s Defensio-anti-spam. “/wp-content/plugins/defensio” –> /wp-content/plugins/defensio-anti-spam
Make sure to delete the old Defensio folder within the plugin folder before installing this update.
Unprocessed comment notification.
If the Defensio service goes down spam will be queued and can be resubmitted through the interface shown below.

New defensio counter widget.
Just like what Askimet’s widget does, it shows the total spam count in quarantine. I have the widget turned on, I like Defensio so I’ll help spread the word too.

Quarantine status in Dashboard
Defensio quarantine stats now shows up in the WordPress admin dashboard under latest activity. Askimet always had this and it’s good that Defensio now has it too as admins love quick access to the stats.

Strong start for Defensio. The plugin added some much needed enhancements. Again, I stress that simplicity is the main goal and if Defensio keeps doing what they are doing now, Defensio’s user base will surely skyrocket. Kudos.

What technique does this plugin use to sort spam from not-spam? the same as akismet? why use this one instead of akismet?

Well they basically work the same except for the interface. Defensio had some much needed enhancements to help users like rss and reporting.
Askimet is also good, currently they have been updating with new feature.
Competition spawns innovation i guess
