Update from TMNET.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Services Restoration Update

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) would like to update its customers on the on-going restoration works undertaken by the consortium for its Internet services, which were affected by the earthquake off Taiwan on December 26th, 2006. To date, we have already recovered more than 80 per cent bandwidth capacity for the Internet traffic.

The consortium, which TM is a member of, is still fervently working towards the full restoration of the submarine cables affected by the incident. The consortium has duly informed us that the current bad weather conditions in the affected area are delaying the restoration works in progress. The extensive works undertaken by the consortium include laying new cables as many are experiencing high tension on them; and additional repair works are needed to be performed on several cables damaged by fishing hooks.

In view of these unforeseen circumstances, the consortium has confirmed that the full restoration will be completed by January 29th, 2007. Your patience is much appreciated during this restoration process.

Customers can call our Customer Interaction Center at 1-300-88-9515 (24 hours) or 1-300-88-1515 from 8.00 a.m. till midnight, or e-mail custcare@tm.net.my for any enquiries.

“Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) would like to announce that its Internet services, which are experiencing some degradation in performance due to the international link outage caused by the earthquake off Taiwan on December 26th, 2006, has already recovered more than 80 per cent bandwidth capacity for its Internet traffic to-date.

The consortium is still fervently working towards the full restoration of the submarine cables affected by the incident. However, due to the bad weather conditions in that area hampering restoration works, we expect the full recovery of our bandwidth capacity for Internet traffic by January 23rd, 2007.

My View: Somehow I’m not convinced by the announcement. To start I’ve never experience good internet in Malaysia ever. I give them another month or more before everything is back to norm.
